Welcome to the Friends of Epping Forest website
Passionate about Epping Forest, the ‘Friends’
was formed over 40 years ago, to represent
the varied interests of all who appreciate
and enjoy Epping Forest.
Our central purpose is to ensure that the Forest is
preserved
in accordance with the 1878 Act,
which required it to be a place where
’the natural aspect is preserved’.
We campaign, respond to consultations and liaise
with many local interests and provide events and
guided walks to ensure that it remains...
"an unenclosed open space dedicated
for the recreation and enjoyment of the public..."

...as Queen Victoria amusingly quipped,
when she famously visited Epping Forest in 1882.
